A new year with new energies, new plans: e.g. Spending a few days in the CULTURAL CAPITAL OF VIENNA… Great museums, great restaurants and coffee houses await you. For those who prefer more sporty endeavours, the Vienna Ice Dream (Wiener Eistraum) in front of City Hall is open once more.

The team at Hotel AUSTRIA had a celebration!

Foto Weihnachtsfeier vor dem Hotel Austria

We had our Christmas party in mid-December. First, there was a Champagne reception in the hotel, where we looked back together on the highlights of the year. Afterwards, we went to Palazzo to enjoy spectacular artists, funny comedians and a great menu. It was once again a great evening that everyone is sure to remember.

Team building at Hotel AUSTRIA

Hermann is currently enrolled in the Department Manager Academy program at the Austrian Hotel Association. His "homework" included a team-building exercise in his own company. One of the games he chose was "building a tower". Teams of two players were formed for this purpose. Each team was given 30 raw spaghetti, 15 marshmallows, a piece of string and some adhesive tape. The goal was to build a tower within 20 minutes. The team with the highest tower would win. Mrs Khoon and Mr Paulus managed to build an 85 cm-talltower. Congratulations!

150 Years of the Vienna World's Fair and Ludwig Bösendorfer

Piano in großem Baroksaal

24 November 2023 - 23 March 2024

At the end of the anniversary year marking 150 years of the Vienna World's Fair, Bösendorfer is presenting a look at the World's Fair and its contribution to the piano world as part of an exhibition in the Salon at the Vienna Musikverein.

Austria presented itself as a piano country: 48 piano companies exhibited 83 grand pianos and 11 upright pianinos. The piano company led by Ludwig Bösendorfer since 1859 exhibited together with the piano maker Friedrich Ehrbar, because the two had united shortly before to form a Viennese piano factory corporation. They got into a dispute over a patent while still at the exhibition and remained irreconcilable. Bösendorfer and Ehrbar showed 10 grand pianos and 2 upright pianos in the Palace of Industry. A grand piano by Bösendorfer, designed together with the exhibition architect Josef Storck, could also be admired in the rotunda. In order to demonstrate the instruments, concerts were held, where the focus was less on the artistic performance, but rather on the sound and the special features of the instruments. The world exhibition was immediately used by music publishers and dance music composers as an advertising medium. Music publisher Adolf Bösendorfer, Ludwig's brother, also published numerous "World's Fair Music" for the occasion.

Adele Bloch-Bauer II

Schloss Belvedere Wien

Painting by Gustav Klimt showing Adele Bloch-Bauer with a large hat and floor-length dress. In the background, colourful floral ornamentation and images of Chinese wallpaper. Gustav Klimt's masterpiece in the Upper Belvedere.

It is an art historical sensation: following extensive research, Gustav Klimt's Adele Bloch-Bauer II (1912-13) will be shown in a special presentation at the Upper Belvedere from 9 November 2023. The painting is one of Klimt's central works and is privately owned.

Why is it now open to the public? Adele Bloch-Bauer II is currently undergoing art technological analyses and restoration in the Belvedere's workshops in Vienna. Until 11 February 2024, there is now a unique opportunity to see this outstanding late work by Gustav Klimt in the original and to gain insights into the artist's painting style thanks to the latest research findings.

Puzzle Klimt

The Heidi Horten Collection is home to a masterpiece by Gustav Klimt entitled Church in Unterach on Lake Attersee, created between 1915 and 1916. The artwork will be featured in one of the “Kabinett” rooms alongside graphic works by artists of the same period. These works are juxtaposed in dialogue with contemporary works from the Heidi Horten Collection. The unifying element is the square – Klimt's trademark, as it were – which gained exceptional popularity in "Vienna around 1900" and has since been adopted by an astonishing number of contemporary artists.
