The Geymüllerschlössel palace is showing the new series of sculptures by Erwin Wurm. The 20 surreal-looking ceramic forms by the Austrian artist provide a successful contrast to the Biedermeier palace.

Deformed clay formations have moved into the historic rooms of the Geymüllerschlössel palace – surrounded by opulent furnishings. The Biedermeier jewel in Pötzleinsdorf, in Vienna Währing, a branch of the MAK – Museum of Applied Arts, continues to serve as a stage for the new series of sculptures by Austrian artist Erwin Wurm until December. "Dissolution" shows his clay sculptures created between 2018 and 2020 in a museum context for the first time.

Biedermeier ambience and exhibition objects therefore offer visitors an exciting contrast. On show are around 20 sculptures, from which individual body parts – such as fingers, lips ears and noses – protrude, while the bodies are deformed to the point of abstraction. The process behind all this takes several months because the objects have to be stored to dry before they can be fired and glazed. What’s more, further sculptures by Wurm in Carrara marble can be seen in the garden of the Geymüllerschlössel palace.
